Kwara CP Decries Police, NSCDC Rivalry
The Commissioner of
Police in Kwara State, Mr Salisu Garba, has decried the rivalry between the command and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in the state.
Garba made the remark in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, on Monday during his familiarisation tour of Kwara South district.
The Commissioner described the development as “unnecessary” and called for a truce.
According to him, the two law enforcement agencies are products of valid constitutional provision saddled with the responsibility of maintaining law and order.
Garba said that since both security agencies were working toward the same goal, there should not be any room for unnecessary rivalry in the discharge of their civic responsibilities.
“Both security outfits were established through the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I do not think there should be any competition than to collectively ensure safety of lives and property,” he said.
He said the police hierarchy was already working to find effective synergy with sister security agencies to ensure a crime-free society.
Garba said that efforts were ongoing to improve the welfare of officers and men of the force, including purchase of sophisticated communication gadgets, prompt promotions and accommodation.
The Area Commander in Omu-Aran, Mr Ayodele Olatunji, highlighted some of the challenges facing the command as inadequate personnel and patrol vehicles as well as lack of accommodation.
The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Charles Ibitoye, decried incessant armed robbery attacks in the area which resulted in the indefinite closure of commercial banks.
“We are not relenting in our responsibility. We even donated two Toyota Hilux vehicles to assist police in its operation. “The community relies much on police and sister security agencies for the maximum security of lives and property in our community,” Ibitoye said.
