Khana Nurses Offer Free Community Health Care Service
As part of its policy of
community health service and grassroots development, a group of health practitioners under the aegis of “Khana nurses” has offered a free community public health awareness programme.
The 2014 edition of the annual programme which was held in Sii, Babbe in Khana local government area of Rivers State, was a reinforcement of the commitment of the body towards intensive, selfless grassroots service.
According to the chairman of the “Khana nurses” affiliate of the Ogoni Nurses Association (ONA), Comrade Sunday Nwiporo, the vision of the association was to reach out to the teeming populace in Khana and its environs who cannot access effective health care delivery. Comrade Nwiporo lamented the gap of effective health care service in the area, particular induced by ignorance of public health awareness and active accessibility to health care service and restated the commitment of the body to fill the gap. The chairman also assured that the programme would be sustainable to offer a complementary service to the effort of government in providing health care services in the area. He called on the local government authorities to key into the programme and assist in its policy of providing proper medicare to the nooks and crannies in the local goverment area.
The programme featured, free medical consultancy services, HIV/AIDs awareness campaign, free diabetes and high blood pressure screening, general health awareness campaign, dispensing of free routine drugs and special thanksgiving services.
