Fireworks: Rivers Residents Flout Police Directive

State have defiled the order given by the state Police Command on the ban on the use of fireworks otherwise called knockout during the Christmas and new year celebrations in the state.
The Rivers State Police Command through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ahmad Mohammad, remanded residents of the state on the existing ban on the use of fireworks warning that the police would arrest and prosecute any one found disobeying the order.
The Tide investigations revealed that fireworks are been shoot within and around major parts and communities in the Port Harcourt metropolis in the state.
Our correspondent reports that most areas where the shooting of the fireworks were noticed are mostly Agip Estate, Chindah, Michael, Assembly quarters, Rumuokoro, Elekahia, Ihediohama in Mile II axis among others.
Our correspondent further reports that exercise are on-going across the 23 Local Government Areas in the state without any check or arrest made by police.
Some of the youths interviewed who spoke under condition of anonymity said they were not aware of any ban on the use of fireworks in the state by the police authority.
They explained that fireworks are usually displayed during the yuletide period and wonder the police would give such directive, adding that the police has to implore more enlightenment to educate people on the ban for effective compliance.
