FG To Boost Students’ Competence In Agriculture
The Federal Govern
ment has inaugurated the School Agriculture Programme in Kaduna State with a pledge to boost the competence of youths to be self-reliant.
The Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on School Agriculture Programme, Hajia Baraka Sani, said the aim was to encourage secondary school students to key into agriculture.
She said the state was among the 12 selected for the programme.
According to her, the programme comprises four components which include learning, partnership, monitoring and evaluation.
Sani said the programme would commence at the state agric schools in Zangon Aya and Zangon Kataf.
The special assistant commended the state government for identifying with the initiative geared towards sustainable development of youths.
Governor Mukhtar Yero thanked President Jonathan for including the state in the programme.
“We have the vast potential to develop the agric sector in the state and the country”, he said.
He added that the government would inaugurate the programme’s implementation unit in the state.
He said access to finance would be guaranteed through cooperatives to set the youths on the path of commercial and industrial agriculture.
