“Family Physicians, Key To In Health Care Delivery”

ily Medicine, University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Dr Kaine Diete-Spiff, has said that Family Physicians were pivotal in adequate healthcare delivery.
Diete-Spiff, who made this ascertion in an interview in Port Harcourt, said family physicians were the first port of call in healthcare delivery, saying that they offer primary care irrespective of age and sex.
Family medicine is a specialty that offers primary care irrespective of the age and sex because we provide the education needed for disease control.
She stated that health education was one of the prevailing key areas in disease prevention and called on family physicians to educate their patients about prevailing health situations, which would go a long way in disease control.
She regretted that Family Physicians were encouraged in their work attributing it to its unpopularity. According to her, “family physicians are not encouraged because it is not a specialty that is recognised especially in Nigeria.
