Etche Communities Call For Police Surveillance During Xmas

Some residents in
Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State have called on the authorities of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Dan Bature to beef up security within the communities in Etche, especially with regard to communities in Okehi and Mba clans during and after the Xmas period.
Some of the residents who spoke to The Tide said the appeal becomes necessary following the upsurge of cultism attacks in the area, adding that many indigenes of the area are skeptical about the yuletide celebration.
According to them, the upsurge of the attack have left so many people with fear over the possibility of travelling home during the festive period due to the increase violence in the area.
Mr Johnson Norubi urged the Commissioner of Police to beef up security in the area in other to protect lives and properties in the area, noting that the  activities of the two rival cult groups De-gbam and Dey-well have made the people of Okehi and Mba clans to desert their homes.
According to him, if no concerted efforts are made to ensure that adequate security measures are put in place many Etche sons and daughters will not travel home this Xmas period.
“My brother what is happening in these areas of Mba and Okehi clans are terrible, these cult groups unleash mayhem in our communities and villages without any confrontation, they brandished all forms of gun and shot even innocent people to death.
“Many people are afraid of travelling home this period because of the activities of these boys. Let those who are  entrusted with the responsibilities of security  please come to the rescue of our people” he stated.
Also speaking, Mr Onyeche Nnadi, a student while corobating with the view of Mr Johnson Nwubi urged security operatives to begin a routine check in all communities across the local government area, adding that these will bring confidence among the people.
He called the police authority to establish a special unit that would station within the local government headquarters that would always respond to the emergency situations when they occur.
