Court Remands, Man 22, For Robbery

trates’ Court in Lagos State on Monday remanded in prison custody one Eric Ankwu, 22, who allegedly attacked and robbed a couple at gun-point, of their cash and phones valued at N1.2 million.
The accused, who resides at Obedi Igwe St., Igando, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing and armed robbery.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chinalo Uwadione, told the court that the offences were committed on September 29 at 8:00 p.m. at 14, Akinola Osan St., Igando.
He explained that the defendant entered the home of one Mr and Mrs Olusegun Akinola and attacked the couple at gun-point.
“He forcefully collected N459,000 cash and cell phones, bringing the total value of good and cash stolen to N1.2million,
“He was armed with guns and various dangerous weapons,’’ Uwadione said.
The prosecutor submitted that the offences contravened Section 1(2) of Robbery and Firearms Act, Cap. 378, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Miss O. A. Akinde, remanded the accused in prison custody and ordered that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), for legal advice. Akinde adjourned the case to December 15, for mention.
