The Head Coach of the
Sunny Clay Boxing Promotion, Lagos, Sunday Nwamuda, has appealed to sports enthusiasts, groups and organisations to donate kits to upcoming boxers.
Nwamuda told newsmen in Lagos that few kits available were not enough for boxers that came for training.
“Provision of training materials is a challenge; this is the reason we are calling on sports lovers and organisations to support us.
“Although, we have some on ground, the increasing number of upcoming boxers who turn out for training has prompted this appeal,’’ he said.
He said that hand gloves, head guards, tooth guards, pants and jerseys and canvass shoes were needed by the boxers to effectively participate in the training.
“These are major items that we need to effectively execute our training to accommodate the large number of the young boxers aspiring to participate.
“ We need to make sure that they are thoroughly groomed according to the ethics, which include wearing protective guards during training and contests,’’ he said.
According to him, the body which is affiliated to the Lagos State Boxing Association holds the training for upcoming boxers at the boxing gymnasium, National Stadium, Lagos.
The coach noted that the young male and female boxers, within the ages of 11 to 15 years, trained every Saturday and Sunday.
He said that the response had been encouraging.
