Bizman Arraigned For Duping Co-tenant Of N1.3m
A businessman,
Abraham Ebhounu, who allegedly obtained the sum of N1.3 million under the pretext of supplying livestock to his co-tenant, was on Wednesday brought before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ebhounu, 32, who resides at No. 15, Bariga Road, Shomolu, Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of obtaining by false pretences and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Chris Takim, told the court that the accused fraudulently obtained the sum of N1.3 million from a co-tenant, one Theresa Usang, between May and June.
He said that the accused induced the complainant to part with money by representing himself as a dealer in goats and other livestock procured from Northern Nigeria.
According to the prosecutor, Ebhounu told Usang that with an investment in the business she could make a large profit.
Takim said that the complainant, who took immediate interest in the business, paid the sum of N1.3 million to the accused with an agreement that he would pay N100, 000 every month into her account.
He explained that since complainant fulfilled her side of the agreement in May, the accused had breached the terms of the contract.
The prosecutor said that the offences committed contravened Sections 312 and 278 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs M.A Oshibanjo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to Dec. 5 for substantive trial.
