A House of Assembly as
pirant in Abia State, Mr Uche Okoroafor, yesterday said that if elected he would sponsor a bill to resuscitate all moribund industries in the state.
Okoroafor, who is seeking to represent Arochukwu State Constituency under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made this known in an interview with in Abuja yesterday.
The aspirant, who expressed regrets that industries that once thrived were abandoned, said reviving of the industries would reduce unemployment in the state.
“I have two major bills I want to push within my 100 days in office if elected; Abia has a lot of industries that are moribund, the Glass, Golden Guinea, among others.
“There are lots of industries in Aba and Umuahia that are not working for reasons we don’t know.
“I will initiate a bill to reactivate these industries and see how we can share liabilities with other states because some of these industries are co-owned by the old Anambra and Imo.
“The bill will seek to reactivate the industries and give them to competent companies and individuals to manage to create jobs and wealth for our state,’’ he said.
Okoroafor said he would also sponsor a bill that would focus on creating political harmony among people of varying political ideologies in the state.
He said the bill would bring about a yearly political summit of stakeholders from ward to state levels to have a state agenda rather than having party agenda.
According to him, such summit will reduce tension and bring about rapid development of the state.
The aspirant said he was moved to join the race for the state legislative house by the concerns he had for his people.
“Each time I go back to my constituency, I feel very bad because it seems my people are being neglected, short changed and denied the benefits of democracy.
“There is hardly any government presence in my constituency and I see it as a big burden on my shoulders.
“I will use my wealth of experience to build on the existing structures and reduce the plight of the constituents.
“The people that have been there tried but one cannot perform beyond one’s capacity and scope of understanding.
“I intend to create a strong synergy between my local government chairman and the state government so that we can attract the dividends of democracy to our people,’’ he said.
Okoroafor is a member of the Governing Board of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo, and National Publicity Secretary, House 2 House Campaign for Democracy.
