An architect, Ezekiel Nya,
has advocated for a sustained investment in social housing scheme by all stakeholders in both the private and public  sectors,  so as to facilitate the realization of Vision 20:2020.
He has also posited that housing development is the bedrock of the economy of the developed  nations of the world where, according to him, the housing sector  contributes between 30 and 70 per cent of the GDP.
Nya who was speaking while interacting  with The Tide on housing development declared support for sustained  investment in mass housing which he said should be championed by the federal government.
According to him, the Federal Government  should champion the realisation of the strategic national objective of delivering one million housing unit annually in order to increase the housing stock where the low income group will be the specific target.
The architect also endorsed the redefinition of social housing, as not just for the poor and the less privilege, but for the unemployed, low and medium-income earners, adding that a specific date like November 1, every year be declared as a national social housing  awareness day for the awareness of the scheme.
The building sector stakeholder, however  urged government not to merge agencies and ministries whose  functions are related but should enhance    their effectiveness, and allow each to operate independently.
He said that each of these agencies in the housing sector should be  allowed to stabilize, so as to be able  to fulfil its required mandate.
Nya also commended the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Federal Housing  Authority (FHA) as well as other Primary Mortgage  Institutions in the country in all their efforts and contributions so far in the development of the housing sector.
Although, he said much has not been done, but urged agencies and stakeholders to double their efforts in ensuring that the mass  housing scheme attracts better investment.
