Anambra Government has
embarked on a hi-tech mapping of its capital, Awka, to enhance the completion of its MasterPlan.
The Chairman, Awka Capital Development Authority (ACDA), Mr Chika Egwuatu, made the disclosure on Wednesday when he led members of the board on tour of Awka North and Njikoka Local Government Areas of the state.
He said that Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra had on assumption of office in March, promised to give the state a befitting capital city.
Egwuatu said that resulted in the inauguration of the 10-member board of the ACDA in May.
Egwuatu, accompanied by the board members, said the familiarisation tour was to enlighten stakeholders within the 10 kilometres capital territory radius on the government’s plans to achieve the objective.
He said that Obiano had a fancy for the Dubai Model City after the heart of most Nigerian tourists and businessmen, noting that a “street in Dubai had only three high-rise buildings in 1990.
“But by 2013, some 23 years after, the same street is dotted by scores of magnificent high-rise buildings’’.
Egwuatu said that ACDA had developed a 204-page Development Control Manual for the city.
According to him, ACDA is waiting for the 8-man ad-hoc committee set up by the governor to ratify the document to complete its work.
He said that a multi-city concept was being envisioned for the model city existence within Awka, while other satellite cities would be spread to other locations within the capital territory.
One of the board members, Willie Okafor, said the six towns of Nawfia, Enugwu-Ukwu, Enugwu-Agidi, Abba, Abagana, and Nimo in Njikoka were in the territory.
He said that the project would engender an unprecedented development in the state.
Another board member, Ezugo Okoye said that ACDA had a mandate to cover the five communities of Mgbakwu, Urum, Amansea, Isuaniocha and Ebenebe towns in Awka North.
Responding, chairman of Njikoka,  Chief Emeka Onuorah, expressed happiness with the calibre of professionals assembled by the governor for the project.
Chairman, Awka North Council,  Chief Cosmas Okonkwo, while receiving the team, said the project could not have come at a better time as the governor was working with speed to achieve this goal.
