Abua-Odual Emerges Champions Of Egelege Competition

government area of Rivers State has emerged winners of the Egelege wrestling competition popularly known as the Championships of the Sand Arena at the ongoing CARNIRIV 2014 held on Wednesday at the Carnival village, Elekahia.
The defending champion Mr Ukwu K. Victor defected Oyibo King of Ahoada West Local government who took 2nd position, while Chinedu Iwezor from Degema local government took third position.
Speaking at the end of the competition, the champion, Ukwu Victor, said the event was keenly contested and described his opponent as an experienced wrestler. He thanked God for making it possible for him to defend his title successfully.
In his speech, Mr Wosu Okachukwu, a free style wrestler and coach, who was one of the judges at the event said the competition was a big success as there were no hitches. He thanked the organisers for promoting wrestling competitions which he described as one of the cultural heritage of the Rivers people for which they are known for in the country and the world at large.
Other judges of the wrestling competition include: Dickson Idowu Omoro (former Referee chairman, Traditional Wrestling of Nigeria), Eyee Godfrey (former Wrestling Head Coach, Rivers State Sports Council) and Eli Oyonomunude (Head Coach Free style Wrestling Rivers State).
Others are: Iyowuna Levi (Acting Heading Coach, Rivers State Sport Council), Kuro Wilson (Traditional Wrestling Coach, Rivers State Sports Council) Charles Obi (Coach, Niger Delta Wrestling Club of Lagos) and Dibia Joseph (Rivers State Council of Arts and Culture.
