11 Passengers Die As Bus Plunges Into Uyo River
No fewer than
eleven passengers travelling form Port Harcourt, Rivers State to Uyo in Akwa-Ibom State have lost their lives.
A source said the accident occured over the weekend at a river near Nigeiran Army Barracks Ibagwa in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa-Ibom state.
The source further said that the accident involved a Toyota Hince Bus with registration member Lagos FJK 911 XE belonging to To & Fro Transport company and a sports utility vehicle (sur).
An eye witness, a relative of one of the deceased said all occupants including two children except two persons lost then lives to the accident.
According to him, the Toyota Hince Bus coming from Port Harcourt was hit by the (suv) sort Jeep, which lost balance near the Ibagwa Bridge and plunged into the river adding that the driver of the suv vehicle was on top speed with the driver trying to avoid a bad spot leading to collision with the bus.
The Tide learnt that driver of the SUV car was said to have taken to his heels due to the height and impact of the tragedy caused by his reckless driving to avoid been cinched to death by the angry sympathizers.
The Tide further learnt that two persons were rescued by local rescuers. Both the Nigerian Police and Federal Road Safety Commission, Akwa-Ibom State commends as well as Julius Berger company joined to hand out the vehicle with the corpses
