Transfer Of Sports To Education Ministry Excites Administrator
A veteran sports
administrator, Mark-Anthony Ezeuchegbu, has expressed delight in the government’s return of the management of school sports in Anambra to the state Ministry of Education.
Ezeuchegbu told newsmen in Abagana near Awka that the state was almost penalised because school sports was handed over to the ministry of sports in violation of the national policy on education.
“It was wrong for school sports to be managed by the ministry of sports; it is good that is back where it belonged.
“We were almost penalised at the national level, because it is against the rule of the body,’’ he said
The retirerd sports administrator, however, said the two ministries should collaborate with education handling the administrative aspect and sports the technical area.
Ezeuchegbu, who spoke at the Abagana closed camp of the state contingent to the 6th Nigeria School Sports Federation Games, said that officials of the ministry of education possessed the right psychology to handle children.
The Games are scheduled for Otukpo, Benue, from November 6.
He called for greater funding of school sports to help achieve the noble objectives of it serving as a breeding ground for future champions
Also, Malam Ibrahim Mohammad, President of National School Sports Federation, urged states to encourage their education ministries to play their roles well.
“Yes, all administrative functions, including putting the children together, protecting them as well as disbursement of funds should be taken care of by the education ministry, while the sports ministry caters for the technical areas,” he said
Meanwhile, the Abagana and Ifitedunu camps of the team have been a beehive of activities as officials assist their athletes to hone their skill in preparation for the Games.
“Everything is alright, athletes and officials are in training and we shall come up with our bests after this exercise, Tony Chiezie, Head of School Sports in the state said.
