Tenant Accuses Landlord Of Stealing, Malicious Damage
A tenant residing at
No 19 Egini Street Mile 3 Diobu Port Harcourt, Mr Charles Ogbugu has petitioned the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Dan Bature over the theft of his N450,000, malicious damage of his property and forceful ejection from his one bedroom flat by his landlord, one Mr Kingsley Ejekwu.
The tenant, who stated this in a document made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend also alleged that Mr Nsirim Ejekwu, Mrs Grace Ejekwu of Obasiolu street, Diobu were all conspirators in the vandalisation of his property, stealing of his money and the forceful ejection.
Mr Ogbugu said sometime in May, 2014, Mr Kingsley Ejekwu, issued a quit notice to him to vacate the one bedroom flat he was occupying before August 20, 2014 and at the expiration of the notice the suspects made him to pay monthly instead of annually.
According to him, the suspect issued him another notice to quit and vacate his apartment on the 30th of September, 2014.
He said following the threats he received from the alleged conspirators, he had to write them through his lawyers who cautioned them against the use of self-help.
Mr Ogbugu explained that in spite of the lawyer’s letter, on the 5th of October, 2014, they forcefully broke into his house, removed the doors, vandalized the apartment and in the process stole his N450,000 as well as a Nokia handset.
Mr Ogbugu also stated that he had reported the matter to the police at Mile 3 police station.
He explained that following his dissatisfaction with the handling of the matter at Mile 3 police station, he petitioned the commissioner.
