The Council for the Reg
istration of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has begun analysing samples from the site of the collapsed building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos.
The President of COREN, Mr Kashim Ali, who made this known in an interview with newsmen, said that the investigation committee would also analyse the statement made by one of the persons involved in the construction of the collapsed structure.
“We had a committee set up that has been working. They (members) have gone to the site to take samples. They are doing a lot of work in the laboratory now to come to a conclusion as to the possible cause of callapse.
“As for the individuals involved, we sent out that notice. Only one of them has come. And we asked him to make a statement which he has made and made some presentation.
“We have given that to the committee to evaluate. So it will be part of what the committee would come up with at the end of the day. They will evaluate his report and then come to a conclusion, he said. According to him, the committee will forward the report to the disciplinary panel for investigation, if there is anything indicting, before any thing further, adding that the body will make everything public, if there is no indictment.
Ali gave the assurance that the committee would do everything to ensure a thorough analysis of all written submission to unravel the level of complicity or otherwise of the individuals.
“Honestly, I don’t want to give a timeline. This is because we need more individuals to come forward and make their written presentations.”
“The committee will do the desk analysis of the submissions and then invite all the individuals concerned to shed more light where necessary,” he said.
Ali added that the council would ensure it sustained the cooperation with all tiers of government to strengthen engineering regulation and monitoring nationwide.
