Surveyor Tasks Colleagues On ICT Compliance

An expert in the built
environment and chairman-elect of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) Rivers State chapter, Mr Edighoman Ewa, has called on quantity surveyors and other professionals in the building industry to be internet compliant and integrate ICT into the industry for effective efficient and quick project delivery.
He said that time is of essence and that a project is delivered when it is successfully completed on time, with the right cost and handed over to the owner.
Ewa, who made the call when presenting a paper titled, “Integrated ICT Approach to Construction Project Delivery,” at a workshop being part of activities marking the NIQS 2014 week, said that members of NIQS know that time is money and hence the need to use ICT to deliver projects with accuracy and on time.
According to him, there should always be up-to-date integration for professionals to receive drawings. We are now in 2014, so you should be able to upgrade to Microsoft sharepoint workspace 2010 by the year 2015.
“Microsoft sharepoint workspace 2010 provides a pathway for working with sharepoint site content whether or not you have access to your corporate network.
“Additionally, sharepoint workspace enables you to bring together team members from both inside and outside your oganisation, with no IT assistance required and no need to waste time thinking about firewalls, servers, security is network access, “ he stated.
The NIQS boss also posited that ICT complaint will enable professionals to bid for jobs globally, saying, “If you want to bid for a job in Dubai, since they are ahead of us in Nigeria, all you will have to do is to bid with pure ICT complaint. You must know how to handle it by bidding through ICT, and getting it through the same ICT medium. Ewa also urged his professional colleagues to have determination on where to invest their money , pointing out that computer software lasts for about two years, and after which new ones take over. He also urged quantity surveyors to make good use of Exel word PDF which can help in executing their professional project, adding that they should always update their software for effective and efficient performance.
