The Nigerian Tourism
Development Corporation (NTDC), a branch of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPTRE) has called on the federal government to sack the Director General of NTDC, Ms Sally Mbanefo for fraudulent practices and incompetence.
This was contained in a 12 page petition dated 22 October 2014 and addressed to the Federal Minister of Culture and Tourism High Chief Edem Duke. The workers lamented that Mbanefo had demonstrated some high level of incompetence in handling the job she was brought to improve upon and consequently, she has a very clear impression that she does not know what she was meant to do in that office.
According to the petition, some clear indications were the case of over eighty million naira, the DG claimed she spent for the development of a cave in Anambra State whereas no single trip of sand was dropped on that soil till date as well as another issue of spending over thirty five million naira for the training of the staff.
It was also stated that at the ITB Berlin, Nigeria did not participate as an exhibitor, at FITUR in Spain, the country did not participate, at the recently concluded Arabian travel market, Nigeria did not also participate. It noted that obviously the administration of Mbanefo means failure and disappointment for the development of the tourism sector.
The petition noted that a situation where the DG and cohorts use the name of the  corporation to source for money and such money not used for the purpose it was meant for, is worrisome and unacceptable.
