The National
Association for the Defence of Workers’ Rights (NADWR) has threatened to mobilise Nigerians against the operations of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) if the authority of the FIRS fails to recall its staff that were recently retired and sacked.
Speaking to newsmen in Lagos last Wednesday, the Association’s National Leader, Comrade Buna Olaitan, said the management of the FIRS served some of its workers compulsory retirement letters and they were short changed.
Olaitan said FIRS on July 15, 2013, served many of its workers, letters of compulsory retirement from service in accordance with the provision of section 7 of No 13 of the FIRS establishment Act 2007.
He said between 2010 and 2012 the sacked workers were issued letters of Transitional Arrangement Offer which gives opportunity for the employee’s career improvement, stressing that FIRS had already predetermined the sack before the letters of transitional arrangement offer were issued to the sacked workers.
He added that the sacked workers were shortchanged as such one year consolidated staff welfare scheme repatriation allowance and internal graduate benefit payment were denied them.
The Association’s boss said FIRS was bent on trampling on the sacked workers’ rights with impunity, adding that the Association after reviewing FIRS positions within 21 days, shall proceed to the next line of action to mobilize the sacked workers and Nigerians against the operations of FIRS nationwide.
