Expert Harps On More Female Boxers
Secretary, Nigeria
Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), Remi Aboderin has said there was a need to encourage more female boxers in the country.
Aboderin told newsmen in Lagos that the number of female boxers in the country was declining because of lack of sponsorship.
He said the presence of female boxers in any boxing championship added more glamour to the event.
“ Female boxers in boxing events enliven bouts; it makes more people to want to watch the event.
“If we are looking at how to draw crowds to events, we should be thinking of more female participation in our competitions,” he said
Another boxing pundit, Isaac Ikhuoria, a coach, charged corporate bodies, especially those in the beverage sector to leverage on the public acceptance of the sport to reach out to the public.
“There is this joy that accompanies watching female boxers on stage; it is that ambience that I want the firms to cash in on.
He regretted that female boxers were not enlisted in the forthcoming GOTV 6 boxing competition coming up on November 23 in Lagos.
“The more female boxers we have, the more the public gets interested in the ring sport,” he noted.
The coach said that with the International Amateur Boxing Association’s new rules, lots of protective measures had been put in place to protect boxers from harm.
