Ogoni people have been
charged to emulate the selfless lives of Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others that were killed as a result of their efforts to liberate Ogoni people from the shackles of injustice and environmental degradation.
The Sole Administrator, Ogoni Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Mr John La Wisa, gave the charge at the 19th anniversary of Ogoni nine hero in Bori recently.
Wisa said the people should see the sacrifice made by the nine heroes as a responsibility, and therefore urged the people to channel their efforts to the struggle which Ken and the eight others died for.
On the issue of governorship of Rivers State, Wisa said that the Ogonis are not concerned with producing the next governor of the state, noting that any Ogoni politician who is contesting is doing so without the support of the Ogoni people.
“We are not Interested in the governorship of Rivers State, because that was not what Ken and the others fought for,” Wisa declared.
He however, called on all Ogonis to use the period as a sober reflection for the lives of the slain heroes.
Also speaking, the President of National Youth Council of Ogoni People (NYCOP), Comrade Mathew Dighi, advised all youths of Ogoniland to desist from being used as instrument of violence in the hands of politicians in the 2015 general elections.
