Education Commissioner Bags MDG-Icon Award

Rivers State Commissioner
for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence Nemi, has been awarded with the 2014 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Icon award.
The award, which was presented to the commissioner recently, at the 2014 MDG awards organized by MDG Global Magazine at Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, was in recognition to Nigeria’s Millennium Development Goals.
“She was honoured for a unprecedented achievements in Nigeria MDGs, especially with the Goal related to education, Poverty Reduction and Sustainable environment,” according to the publisher of the MDG Global Magazine, Mr Chuks Nwoko.
Mr Nwoko continued that the education commissioner’s interpretation and execution of leadership vision on Education in Rivers State has been globally acknowledged.
“The basic components and Core Values of the MDG include transparency, Integrity, Accountability, Project Evaluation and Monitoring, etc.
“You surpassed in all the above described areas and more. When the report on Nigeria MDGs is finally written, you mention will be prominent.
“This award is in appreciation of your forthrightness, passion, talent, ability, competence, patriotism, zeal, loyalty and commitment to Nigeria’s MDGs and its cores,” he said.
The publisher of MDG Global Magazine also used the occasion to call on other state governments to emulate the Rivers State Government in education development.
Rivers State has recorded numerous achievements, especially the recruitment of 13,000 teachers and the model schools concept,” he concluded.
