Ebola: Border Record Decline In Asian Visitors
As a fall out of the out
break of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), and for fear of being repatriated or subjected to rigorous check as a result of Nigeria vigilance on the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease, Asians have not been coming into Nigeria via the Seme border.
A source close to the Area Controller, Immigration Service, Seme Border, confided on our correspondent that visas of all first timers are now checked to know when last the person visited Asia.
The check, according to the senior officer, who does not want his name in print, is conducted on all travelers irrespective of their nationality.
Travelers that have visited Liberia, South Africa recently, according to our source are quickly referred to Port Health officials, who are in a better position to determine who is medically fit or unfit to visit Nigeria.
Our correspondent reliably gathered, that border security personnel are at alert to cover their nose, glove their hands whenever they sight a first timer from Liberia.
The unconfirmed source said Liberians who are regular businessmen still transact businesses within the border areas and are not subjected to intense or rigorous checks as it has been long most of them visited home.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Tito group of companies, Chief Isaac Akinkunmi, while addressing newsmen last week at Makurdi lamented the porous nature of Nigerian borders and advised Nigerians to be safety conscious by continuing with the tradition of hand washing and keeping their environment clean so that there wont be a repeat of Mr. Patrick Sawyer’s case.
