Dickson Promises To Pay Bayelsa Players
Protesting Bayelsa
United players have now been promised their outstanding monies next week by Governor Seriake Dickson.
The protesting players met with the state Governor Seriake Dickson over their unpaid sign-on fees over for the past two seasons on Wednesday and he promised to pay the players their entitlements on Monday.
”We met the Governor on Wednesday morning and he promised us that we will be paid on Monday,” one of the players reported.
”We want to believe him because this is the first time we are meeting him one-on-one since we have been asking for our money.”
The player had earlier met the deputy governor in one of their protest and nothing came out of the discussion.
On Wednesday, the players expressed their disappointment in the club management for lying to them about their unpaid wages.
They staged another protest at Government House to request for their money.
One of the top players of the team told AfricanFootball.com the club management told them government had approved 100 million Naira to cover their unpaid entitlements before they honoured the last game at Heartland, which they won to retain their Premier League status.
”We are not happy with what is going on here. We have asked for our money several times during the season and the management didn’t come up with a tangible answer,” he said. ”We were disappointed they went far lying to us that the government has approved 100 million Naira for them to pay us before we agreed to go for the last game against Heartland that they will pay us immediately we returned, up till now there is no money.
”It means they just tricked us into playing the last game. This is wickedness on their part.”
Another player said: “Why must they lie to us that there is money approved for our payment and up till now we have seen nothing?
”I am highly disappointed in the management for doing this to us. We have to protest because we have not been paid our entitlements.”
