Cement: More Reactions Trail Dangote’s Price Slash
Reactions have continued
to trail the recent announcement of cement price reduction by the Dangote Cement Company, in its efforts to encourage construction and development activities in the country.
Intending property developers and building materials dealers have said that such price slash is a welcome development that will not only encourage development of property, but will also increase productivity in the economy.
In her reaction on the issue, Mrs Angela Igwe, who is a journalist and a resident of Port Harcourt, said she was very happy on hearing about the decision of the Dangote group on the slash of cement price.
She said “With this move by the Dangote Company, there is hope for Nigerians to own homes. When you realize that the price you have to pay is slashed almost by half, that will boost your morale to do something.
“There is hope now for us to own homes, particularly for public servants and people who desire to own houses and I know that I will be a landlord very soon with this development.
On his part, Mr Livingston Nwosu, cement and other building materials dealer said that cement is a major material needed for building and construction, adding that much money is spent on cement purchase.
He said that cement is required at every stage of building, from the block moulding, to foundation and plastering / finishing, stressing that much is being expended on cement alone.
Nwosu, however, posited that the slash in the price of cement by the Dangote group will go a long way to encourage people to develop homes.
Meanwhile, an estate surveyor and valuer, Rufus Ordu has said that about 20 percent of the fear that usually grip intending developers is been allayed with the move by Dangote.
He, however, urged the company to maintain such facility, because the public will be interested not only on the announcement of the reduction in price, but in its workability and sustenance in the market.
It would be recalled that the Dongote Cement Company had recently announced slash in the prices of its cement from N1,700 to N1,000 and N1,150 for the 32.5 and 42.5 cement grades, respectively.
The company, however, stated that Value Added Tax (VAT) will jack the price to about N1,300 in the market.
