Anglican Clerics Beat Knights 1-0
A novelty football
match between the Clerics and Knights of Diocese of Niger Delta North (Anglican Communion) ended 1-0 in favour of the Clerics.
The match which was to mark the 60th Birthday Anniversary of Mrs Beatrice G. Kattey (JP), the wife of the Archbishop, Province of Niger Delta North, Most Rev’d I. C. O. Kattey (JP), took place at the Rivers State School of Health Technology, Rumueme on Tuesday.
The only goal was scored by Rev Ollor who was the Captain of the clergy team at the 20th minute into the second half.
The match which was less than 60 minutes play was very entertaining and exciting as both teams thrilled spectators into laughter and was indeed a period of time out from the normal church activities which occasioned relaxation and fun as both sides exhibited amateur footballing of which both sides missed many scoring chances. The game was witnessed by the Archbishop, Most Rev’d Kattey, wife, their children and other members of clergy and laity.
Addressing newsmen after the match, the special guest of honour, Mrs Beatrice Kattey (JP) expressed gratitude to the organsers and sponsors of the novelty match.
Said she: “You have done very well. All played well and it was a wonderful exercise.” Stating that, the day of the match was her actual birthday and appealed that the exercise should continue between the various arms of the church.
Also speaking, the Archbishop, Province of Niger Delta and Bishop of Diocese of Niger Delta North, Most Rev’d I. C. O. Kattey said the game was not a “do or die” affair and congratulated both the clergy (the winners) and the Knights for the show of support, encouragement and sportsmanship.
He urged Christians to love themselves and live in brotherly love.
Activities marking the 60th birthday of the “Mama Province” Mrs Kattey would continue tomorrow with a thanksgiving service at the St Paul’s Cathedral Church, Garrison, Port Harcourt.
