Union Urges Civil Servants To Support Govt’s Policies
The Joint Public Service
Negotiating Council, Rivers State chapter, has urged for support for the state government policies toward ensuring that dividends of democracy are delivered to the people.
Speaking to The Tide in Port Harcourt last Wednesday, the union’s Chairman, Comrade Emecheta Chukwu said civil servants in the state must give their maximum support to the government of Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi to complete his development projects in the state.
Chukwu said the organised labour in the state had benefitted immensely from the state administration prompt payment of salaries, recruitment of additional teachers, and payment of the workers special allowances and entitlements, among others.
He commended the governor for the implementation of the minimum wage payment to the state public servants.
The labour leader praised the governor for remaining focused towards giving meaning to the lives of the people of the state, stressing that the various projects executed across the state were indeed people-oriented projects.
He also commended the government for building a befitting cultural edifice in the state which stands as the best in the country, stressing that the edifice should be handed over to the management of the Arts Council.
The joint council eulogized the governor for his labour-friendly disposition over the past seven years, adding that the government was actually committed towards better welfare for the civil servant in the state.
Chukwu urged the state government to keep to its regular and prompt salary payment especially now that schools had resumed in the state when parents grapple with the burden of school fees payment and care for their family members.
