Tenant Beats Up Landlord, Escapes Lynching
A tenant residing
within the Rumuaholu axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chidi Moneke, escaped being lynched by an angry mob last Friday for allegedly beating up his landlord to a state of stupor over electricity bill.
The Tide gathered that Moneke on the said day, at his residence, assaulted his landlord, who is fondly called “Udeogu” by beating him over unpaid utility bills.
It was gathered that the tenant descended on his landlord by punching him and caused injuries on his eyes, mouth and nose, simply because he was asked to pay his outstanding electricity bills.
The Tide also gathered that the said tenant had not been happy with his landlord over what he called unnecessary demands and took advantage of the electricity bill demand to not only manhandle him, but attempted to matchet him.
An eye witness who came to the rescue of Udeogu reported that the landlord started shouting and escaped when the said tenant ran into his house to pick a cutlass.
The eye witness said that the landlord ran into his compound and locked his gate, and that such scenario resulted to reactions from the neighbourhood who were angry over the action of the tenant, and went after him.
It was gathered that Moneke had to run for his dear life; seeing the angry mob from the neighbourhood, who had mobilized against him, to rescue the said landlord.
