RSG Flays FG’s Promise To Rebuild Mile 1 Market
The Rivers state Commissioner for Lands and survey, Hon. Ezemonye Ezekiel-Amadi has described the Federal Government’s promise to rebuild the burnt Rumuwoji (Mile 1) market in Port Harcourt as a huge joke.
Hon. Ezekiel-Amadi’s reaction followed the recent promise by the former Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike at the Empowerment of Rumuwoji (Mile 1) market victims of December 2013 fire by the federal Government led by the National Chairman of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu in Port Harcourt.
Hon. Ezekiel-Amadi said it is a big shame for the Federal Government to abandon its responsibilities of fixing federal roads, insecurity and malfunctioning federal schools to be more concerned with a market that contract had already been awarded for its building by Rivers State Government.
The Commissioner called on Wike to direct Federal Government attention to the Eleme-Akpajo-Onne roads which have become a death trap to motorists and other road users.
According to him, “there are many projects and programmes bothering 90 percent of Nigerians and need federal Government attention, yet they came promising to rebuild Rumuwoji market.
“I will not be surprised that someday, they will also promise to build market in Rukpokwu, politics and government in Nigeria have been reduced to a huge joke. What a shame”, Ezekiel –Amadi added.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government has mobilized the contractor handling the rebuilding of Rumuwoji market to site to prove critics and the Federal Government wrong that it has abandoned the re-building of the market in Port Harcourt.
