RIVLEAF Explains Search For Amaechi’s Successor
The National President of
the Rivers Leadership Foundation (RIVLEAF), Mr Alex Wele, has given reasons for the body’s search for a credible successor to Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State in 2015.
The search according to the organiSation, is necessitated by the excellent performance of the governor in office and the fact that there is need for the State to break away from the past when governorship candidates were foisted on the people while they (the people) stayed aloof and watched.
Mr. Wele, who gave the explanation in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, said the foundation also embarked on the search project in order to galvanise the consciousness of the people towards choosing a credible governor in 2015, adding that the State earnestly needed a credible leader that would govern it next year.
He further explained that the state equally needed somebody who would perform better than Amaechi at the Brick House, even though the foundation was appreciative of the quantity and volume of work the present administration had so far put on ground. Mr Wele, who is also a Special Assistant to Governor Amaechi said the body undertook the search for a credible successor to provide the state a benchmark which all political parties in the State should adhere to in choosing their governorship candidates, pointing out that the search cut across party affiliation, as all the political parties in the State were expected to present credible candidates for Rivers people to choose from in 2015.
He disclosed that the foundation had already gone far with the project, as Rivers people had started sending their opinions to the two lines opened for that purpose by the body, saying, the body was in the process of establishing a website for the collation of votes of participants.
Mr Wele said as soon as the construction of the website was completed, the votes would be collated and the body’s findings communication to the public within the second week of October.
He, however clarified that the person so selected would not be the automatic governor of the state as the electorate had the last say on who governs them.
