Resolution Of Rivers Judiciary Crisis Suffers Setback
The Attorney General
and Commissioner for Justice of Rivers State, Worgu Boms, has said that attempt to resolve the state’s judiciary crisis has suffered a setback as a delegation to the National Judicial Council could not meet with the authorities.
Hon Boms, who stated this in a message, sent to legal practitioners in the state last Monday, expressed regrets that despite the efforts of the delegation they could not meet with the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Alaoma Justice Muktar.
He said the Port Harcourt Bar Chairman was specific on his own efforts as well as the efforts of a member of the branch who appeared to know the terrain well but expressed regrets that in spite of all the efforts of the branch nothing was achieved.
The Attorney General asked members of the Bar to confirm the veracity of his statement with the chairman of their various branches.
It would be recalled that following the tussle for who becomes the Chief Judge of Rivers State by the NJC and the Rivers State government, the courts in the state have been. Shut the courts were closed down following the industrial action by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) over who they should take orders from.
Pathetically, none of the parties has shifted grounds to allow the courts to re-open. Consequently, the lawyers and accused persons are the worst hit in the crisis.
