Construction of a new
trailer park, internal roads and drainages at the industrial area of the Federal Lighter Terminal, Onne Port complex, Rivers State is currently on-going.
The Head of Commercial, INTELS Nig Ltd, Akinpelu Akintoye made this known on slide presentation during the official commissioning of Onne ports complex phase 4 projects and ground breaking ceremony of the phase 4B at the Onne port complex on Friday.
Akintoye said construction of a new trailer park was to decongest the road for free flow of traffic, and hinted that it would soon be completed.
According to him, “one of the main points of the reorganisation of the Onne oil and gas free zone is the development of a new road and the relocation of a container terminal company, Maersk, in an area with direct access to the new road, which is currently ongoing”.
He said the scope of the road project was to enhance the connection between the federal lighter terminal, the federal ocean terminal areas and the jetties, as well as to link the newly developed industrial areas at the north of the federal ocean terminal.
The Head of Commercials also noted that the 15,500 metres of new road would reduce traffic delay and ease circulation, pointing out that the project would also have concrete pavements for roads and walkways, drainages and road crossing work, earthworks and subgrade as well as utility works and works for shoulders and separating island.
The commercial head however disclosed that over 170 companies are operating within the Onne oil and gas free zone and lauded the efforts of the federal government in their transformation agenda of the ports in Nigeria.
