Nigerian Teachers, Well Trained- NUT
The Principal State
Secretary of the Osun Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr Abdullai Muhammed, says Nigerian teachers are well trained as professionals.
Muhammed said this on Tuesday in an interview with the newsmen in Osogbo.
“ To be a teacher in Nigeria, you need to have a minimum requirement of National Certificate of Education (NCE) from a recognised College of Education,’’ he said.
He said all registered members of the NUT were certified professionals being products of recognised colleges of education and universities.
“Registered teachers with the NUT are all certified and qualified individuals that have passed through prescribed training and have bagged a degree from a recognised and certified institution.
“We also have the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) that regulates teachers’ activities, training and also issues certificates to qualified teachers.
“It is only after a teacher is registered and also trained by the TRCN that such a person is recognised as a certified teacher, “ he said.
He also said the TRCN organises training programmes for qualified teachers periodically to upgrade their knowledge after obtaining a degree from a recognised institution.
