Nigeria league lead
ing scorer with 17 goals, Mfon Udoh, has said he hopes to be called up by the new coaches of the Super Eagles.
Enyimba striker, Udoh, is now just three goals from equaling the goals record in the Nigeria league after he hit a brace in a Week 33 game against Nasarawa United to take his tally to 17 goals.
Mfon has proved to be a prolific goal scorer having scored 15 goals last season in his first full season in the league with hometown club, Akwa United.
The all-time Nigeria league goals record of 20 goals was set by Jude Aneke three seasons ago.
The records show that many strikers have cashed in on finishing as top scorers in the Nigeria league.
Ishaya Jatau, set a record which lasted more than 19 years when he scored 17 goals for Iwuanyanwu Nationale in the inaugural 1990 professional league season in Nigeria.
He will thereafter take his shooting boots to top Ivorian club, Asec Mimosas.
Ahmed Musa broke this long-standing milestone in the 2009/10 season when he scored 18 goals for Kano Pillars.
His new goals record earned him a contract with modest Dutch club, VVV Venlo and a season and a half later, he was snapped up by top Russian club CSKA for a fee reported to be over five million Euros.
He has since won two league championships and featured in both the UEFA Champions League as well as the Europa League.
Is Udoh now destined for such path soon?
