A Port Harcourt
based lawyer and Social Crusader, Barr Chijoke Agi, has described the riding on convoy with sirens by expatriates working in private companies as offensive to the doctrine of equality before the law.
Barr Agi, who stated this while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt Monday, noted that it was unfortunate that artisans in white skins who work in private companies were treated like overlords in Nigeria especially in the Niger Delta region.
He said Nigerians were not given the same treatments in foreign lands and expressed surprise why expatriates in Nigeria should be accorded such respect.
The Port Harcourt lawyer expressed regrets that policemen were wasting their man-hours securing expatriates, whom he said ought not to have a better security than the Nigerians themselves.
He explained that some of the mobile policemen attached to the expatriates display their excesses when they flog fellow Nigerians with the cowhide whip just to make way for their artisan overlords.
Barr Agi called on the state House of Assembly to make laws that would regulate the use of sirens in the state.
He noted that every and any person could afford to use sirens in the state and explained that sometimes there could be up to four groups riding on convey and blasting their sirens.
According to him, “we must limit the use of sirens otherwise robbers will find it beneficial to use sirens”.
“We understand that the rise of the Niger Delta militants that occasioned kidnapping and other heinous bestiality is the reason why expatriates started using security but it beats my imagination that year after the end of the militant siege in the Niger Delta, white expatriates are still blasting sirens. It is regrettable and we must condemn it in totality”, he stated.
“If Nigeria aspires to be respected in the comity of nations, she must be a diligent adherent to the rule of law”, he pointed out.
He called on Nigerians to put hands on deck to ensure that the nation developed rapidly.
