Lawmaker Earmarks N120m For Scholarship, Empowerment
A member of House of
Representatives representing Idemili Federal Constituency, Mr. Charles Odedo, says he has packaged scholarship and empowerment programmes worth about N120 million for his constituency.
Odedo disclosed this to newsmen in Awka while indicating his desire to seek for re-election in 2015.
He said that the empowerment package for 2014 would include the distribution of motorcycles and scholarship to 500 students.
“I intend to spend more than N100 million in my constituency on October 25,’’ he said.
According to him, he is seeking re-election because he is yet to complete two terms in the House of Representatives.
He said that he would be spending six years and 10 months in the House by the end of May 2015which would be less than two tenures of eight years.
“I am going to contest the 2015 election so that I will complete two tenures in the National Assembly.
“Some people are erroneously calling it the third tenure, but I am going in to complete the second tenure because I started in 2008,’’ Odedo said.
The lawmaker said he embarked on N60 million scholarship scheme in 2013 and expressed optimism that he would do that of 2014 in the last week of October.
He also said that he had sponsored five bills of which one was about harmful widowhood practices, which he said, was seeking to correct some obnoxious acts against widows in some parts of the country.
Odedo said that another bill passed was that of the telecommunications industry aimed at enabling Nigerians to buy into the giant telecoms industry
He said that he had impacted positively on his constituency through projects in the 17 communities.
“I have given out scholarships to at least 10 to15 students in each community. I have empowered about eight persons in each community in terms of starting a trade and or expanding the existing ones,’’ he said.
