A fisherman, Mr
Godwin Apiafi, has called on fishermen in the state to observe regulations of sea while fishing.
Apiafi, who hails from Buguma in the Asari Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, who stated this while speaking to our correspondent in Port Harcourt, recently, said indiscriminate fishing in the state was capable of rendering some stock extinct.
According to him, the practice whereby fishermen use small net mesh to scan the waters to make their catch was unwholesome.
He advised fishermen to always throw back kid fish into the water to enable them replenish and mature.
While condemning the practice where some fishermen use explosives for fishing purposes, he called for restraint on such practice even  as he said such fish was poisonous and not fit for human consumption.
On the establishment of farms especially fish farm by the state government, he said the venture was worthwhile.
However, he explained that for such government projects to stand the test of time, they need to be committed to a Private Public Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
Citing the Buguma fish farm as an employer of labour, he said under PPP, the enterprise would serve its purpose.
