The Vice Chancellor, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni near Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Prof. Rosemund Dienye Green-Osahogulu says over 3,668 students of the institution will be receiving the Bachelors Degree as well as certificate awards in various academic disciplines during the university’s 30th – 32nd Convocation ceremony billed for Saturday.
Green-Osalogalu disclosed this while speaking with Journalists during a command performance (Drama presentation) by the Tess K. theatre group to kick-start the week-long activities for the convocation ceremony.
She explained that the convocation would be held in two batches, with the graduands of University of Ibadan taking the lead on Friday, while the pioneer graduands of the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni would take their turn on Saturday.
She further explained that out of 3,668 graduating students, 3,000 are for the University of Ibadan, while 668 are for Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, adding that the graduands will be the first graduates from the institution since it was upgraded to University status in 2009, by the State government.
According to her, “the institution started as full University in 2009, and we will be showcasing what we have in stock since five years during the convocation ceremony”, adding that the institution was grateful to the state government for approving the up-grading of the College to a University of Education.
She used the opportunity to call on the lucky graduands to always remain true ambassadors of the institution even after receiving their degrees and certificates, adding that all the graduands have been prepared well to join the society even as she called on them to assist the young ones in the society.
Green-Osaghogulu lauded Prof. Henry Bell-Gam of University of Port Harcourt for the group’s presentation, adding that IAUE will work in synergy with the group for better relationship.
Earlier in his speech, Professor H.L.Bell-Gam said the “gein” the drama was a total theatre package expressed through dance, songs/music, acting, music and other theatrical elements, noting that the dramatic action traces the origin of communal clashes, tribalism, ethnicity, religious bigotry, unemployment and insecurity in contemporary societies.
He averred that in spite of our cultural differences, Nigeria as a country must continue to co-exist and foster the needed development.
“Unity in diversity is priceless and must be maintained through our various cultures expressed through occupation, clothing, which can be found in each of us”, he said.
“It is our hope that as you experience this theatrical diet, you preach peace and unity because we are great people, good people, we are one”, he stated.
