Groups Endorse Ugwuanyi, Onu For Enugu Guber
Two socio-political groups,
Enugu Unity Forum (EUF) and Total Mandate for Good Governance have appealed to other political parties in Enugu State to support the endorsement of Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the consensus governorship candidate of Nsukka people for the 2015 governorship election in the state.
They also urged other guber aspirants of the PDP in the state to shelve their ambitions and accept the emergence of Ugwuanyi as consensus candidate in the interest of peace and harmony in the zone.
This is as a socio-political and cultural group that represents diverse interests of Nsukka people, the Nsukka Zonal Forum (NZF), urged one of the aspirants of the PDP, Mr. Chinedu Onu, to go ahead and contest the governorship position in Enugu State, criticising what it viewed as “attempt to foist a candidate on Enugu North Senatorial Zone to whom the slot to produce the next governor of Enugu State had been zoned.”
In a written address issued by the group, the members affirmed their position that they had unanimously agreed to support the candidature of Onu, asking him to vie for the post of the governor of Enugu State as a mark of respect and honour to the people of Nsukka cultural zone against the “selection of a candidate by one man”.
Vice Chairman of the Total Mandate for Good Governance in Enugu State, Chief Ikemefuna Eze, who briefed journalists on behalf of the leadership of the group at the end of their zonal meeting in Nsukka where they unanimously adopted the choice of Ugwuanyi, described it as a welcome development that should be supported by all.
”At the meeting, we had a consensus from the members and everybody adopted Ugwuanyi. We are not following the bandwagon. We have been able to identify with him and we have seen his good works. Ugwuanyi is an uncommon philanthropist and if given the opportunity will take Enugu to great heights,” he said.
