Group Condemns Invasion Of Courts
The Centre for the
Vulnerable and Underprivileged (CENTREP) has condemned the invasion of a High Court premises in Ekiti State by thugs, leading to the alleged beating up of the presiding judge.
This was contained in a statement signed by its executive director, Mr Oghenejabor Ikimi, and made available to newsmen in Warri, Delta State.
The statement also condemned the Nigeria Police for invading the High Court premises in Port-Harcourt, describing the two incidents as barbaric and sacrilegious.
The human rights group called for an inquest into the two incidents with a view to bringing the culprits and their sponsors to book as a deterrent to future trouble makers.
In the meantime, CENTREP has enjoined the Federal Government to, with immediate effect, suspend the coming National Awards, saying it had become and all-comers affair.
In the statement made available to newsmen Ikimi hinged CENTREP’s reason on the claim that the list is ridiculously fraught with names of serving civil and public servants, friends and personal staff of the president.
“The above has become necessary owing to the fact that out of the over 3,500 Nigerians that are recipients of our National Award, some of them have allegedly been convicted of corruption and other crimes of late.”
