Gov To Restore Anambra’s Glory In Sports
Governor Willie Obiano of
Anambra has said that he would restore the lost glory of the state in sports.
Obiano gave the assurance at the opening of the 8th Anambra Sports Festival at the Rojenny Games Village, Oba.
The governor, who eulogised the exploits of some of the state’s former sportsmen and women, said the dismal performance of the state at national competitions in recent times was appalling.
He promised to provide modern sports equipment and facilities and also improve the image of the state in sports.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Tony Nnacheta said the restoration of sports excellence in Anambra would be hinged on a tripod of “tiptop facilities’, devotion of youths and partnership of people of goodwill.
Nncheta said the state had secured the services of Innocent Egbunike, who would be the state’s high performance director.
