Expert Cautions Lawyers On Deeds Of Conveyance
A Port Harcourt based
lawyer and social crusader, Barr. Simple Dioha, has called on lawyers practising in the state to shun cheap deeds of conveyance.
Barr. Dioha who stated thus while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt Monday, expressed regrets that some lawyers took paltry sum of money to prepare title documents especially the deed of conveyance.
He said the attitude tended to cheapen the legal profession and asked young lawyers not to allow themselves to be cheapened by lay persons.
According to him, “surveyors have maintained reasonable charges while lawyers failed to do because of what I call desperation.”
“We cannot cheapen our profession. It is one of the noblest profession that anybody can think of. We must hold our shoulders high in spite of daunting challenges”, he stated.
Barr. Dioha remarked that it was unwholesome for lawyer to aspire to make it fast and at all cost and noted that such attitude was likely to make them do anything.
The Port Harcourt lawyer said there were many aspects of the legal profession that were not fully explored in the Nigerian nation.
He, however, pointed out that awareness would make clients need lawyers in the areas never used lawyers.
Barr. Dioha explained that clients were losing money in land transaction because they did not use lawyer to conduct ‘searches’ for them to confirm the ownership of such land.
