Egbeda Youths May Go To Court Against Company

Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State have threatened legal action against Jocarl Nig Ltd, a company operating in their community, if their demands are not met.
The Chairman of the Landlord Youths Association, Mr. Frankline Isaiah, who stated, this while chatting with The Tide in Port Harcourt noted the community’s lands were not properly acquired.
Mr. Isaiah faulted the process of the land acquisition in which he said landlords were paid peanuts, and explained that the firm was yet to perform any social responsibility towards the community.
He said that the lands which the company claimed to have acquired, was acquired in the semblance of government acquisition at the rate of eighty thousand naira per hectare.
Mr. Isaiah pointed out that because of the faulty process of acquisition, there was no deed of conveyance between the community and the company.
He noted that those the company used for the acquisition threatened the agrarian populace that they had no option but to accept the pittance as compensation as by law government’s compensation ought not to be adequate.
He said the youths were surprised that it was not government after all but a private limited liability engaged in farming.
According to him, “if the company wanted to operate in the community, they must rectify their land acquisition, engage in social responsibility as well as employ the teeming youths.
He said youths were not happy with the discriminatory salary payment, a situation where workers from the community earned less for equal work, while northern workers earned more.
Comrade Isaiah, who said they were still negotiating with the firm, said their efforts were being sabataged.
He noted that if current negotiation failed they would have no option than to go to court.
