As part of efforts to galvanise Nigeria to greater heights, a former lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Lancaster, United Kingdom, Dr. Uwem Ite, has canvassed the evolution of a Nigerian Dream that must embody the visions and aspirations of the people.
Dr. Ite who is presently the coordinator, Sustainable Development, Shell Petroleum development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) said this in his lecture entitled, “charting a new way for the future of Nigeria; A message to the youth” at the annual September activities of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Airfield District 9140 in Port Harcourt.
He also said that Nigerians must think more of what they can do for the country rather than what the country will do for them.
“There can be a Nigerian Dream. There must be clearly defined mission and vision and strategic plan, for the future” he said.
Dr. Ite also stressed the need for a proper future for Nigeria, stressing that as the foundation of the society, the youth must fashion out ways of giving service to the society.
He also reminded them to know that the future of the country lies with them not with political parties and stressed the need for the development of education to enhance the quality of youths in the country.
Also speaking, Rotarian Tamuno Opubo Tami said that young people must be given more opportunities to be involved in Rotary activities.
He also stressed the need for training and retraining of Rotaractors to enable them contribute to the activities of Rotary.
Earlier, the President of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Airfield, Rotarian Ima Onuigbo said that this year’s September celebration was focused on youths and Rotaractors to harness other energies for the development of both the Rotary Club and the society.
