Coordinator Hails Rivers On Fadama III
The Rivers State Co-
ordinator of the Fadama III project, Prince Kingsley Amadi has said that the level of response in respect to counterpart funding in the state was above 60 percent.
Amadi who came up with this while speaking to our correspondent in Port Harcourt recently said, under the arrangement, it was expected that stakeholders comply to enable the project, succeed in the state.
According to him, his agency was doing its best assisting rural farmers in the state to produce more food for the people.
The Fadama III boss said the main thrust of the project was to improve the income of the rural farmers with a view to making them agribusiness oriented.
“The main objective of Fadama III Project is to improve the earnings, income of farmers, the grassroots and make them entrepreneurs,” he said.
He said the thinking of the FG and World Bank for farmers is for them to move from subsistence to entrepreneurship.
He further explained that under the counterpart funding, if LGAs do not pay their own quota, it would be difficult to reach out to the farmers.
He said generally, the level of compliance was above 60 per cent.
The Fadama III project is an agric diversification project initiated by the federal government and assisted by the World Bank under a counterpart funding arrangement.
This means that there are different stakeholders involved like the FG, World Bank, state governments and the LGAs including the local Communities.
