Community Leader, S’East Govs To Create Environment For Investment
The President General
of Imo Community Assembly, Abuja, Chief Ike Obasi, has called on the Southeast governors to create favourable environments for investments in the zone.
Obasi made the call in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, saying a lot of entrepreneurs from the zone in the Diaspora were willing to invest in the area if necessary infrastructure were available.
“Investment has a lot to do with infrastructure and government support. If government opens up an area with good roads, electricity, water and other facilities, businessmen will definitely be attracted.
“Igbo people are known for their enterprise but many of their investments are outside Igboland because of the lack of infrastructure,’’ he said.
He said that there was a time when virtually everything could be manufactured in Aba but expressed regrets that it was no longer the case because of infrastructure decay in the city.
Obasi said Southeast governors should know that the development of the region lay in their hands as the Federal Government could only complement their efforts.
He also identified insecurity as another factor that militated against investment in the Southeast, saying the level of kidnapping and other crimes scared investors.
“Sometimes when you travel to some places in the Southeast, you have to dress like a labourer and disguise yourself to avoid being kidnapped.
“In that type of situation, how can one think of investing in an area where you always feel unsafe?’’ Obasi asked.
