The Super Falcons of Nigeria will today seek to take a step closer to their bid of reclaiming the African Women Championship title when they take on the Banyana Banyana of South Africa.
It is one of the semi final clash at the ongoing 2014 African Women Championship in Namibia which will led to the ultimate stage for the championship match.
Before the championship kicked off about a forthnight ago, the Falcons promised to make amends following their failure last time out in Equatorial Guinea, where they lost out to the same South Africans in the semi final stage.
Thus, today, vengeance is in the air as the Nigerian Women seek to go all the way to the title. So far, they have been in ruthless form winning three out of three Group matches, scoring 12 and conceding two goals. They were however, made to work hard to keep the hosts at bay in a 2-0 victory in their group’s final match.
South Africa on their path has been dogged. After an opening day lone goal loss to Cameroon, they rallied to edge out Ghana and Algeria to progress. They certainly, would not be easy customers to the falcons.
But Falcons skipper Evelyn Nwabuoku has said that they would not play with the hand brake on against the Banyana today. That they are eager to bring glory back to Nigeria and South Africa would not stop them now they have their eyes set on the trophy.
Also, the Falcons’ form so far shows that, as has been acknowledged by foes and fans alike, they are on track to conquer.
Coach Okon is expected to unleash all his big funs, including leading scorer, Desire Oparanozie, Asisat Oshoala, keeper Precious Dede and others he rested in their last game, against the South Africans.
The other semi final will see Cameroon battle Ivory Coast for a ticket to the final on Saturday.
