The Federal Govern
ment has been urged to give urgent attention to the deplorable condition  of Igbo-Etche road and other roads in the area. An aspirant for the Rivers State House of Assembly, Prince Emmanuel Njoku, who spoke to The Tide said the poor condition of the road was making socio-economic live in the area unbearable.
Njoku said the situation was being compounded by the present gas pipeline being executed by Nigeria Gas Company (NGC), a subsidiary of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC stressing that the project has mounted more pressure on the road.
“Vehicles and pedestrians pass through hell on the road. Yes, the road had been very bad before, but the blockage of the area by NGC with their 24 inches pipe everywhere has worsened the situation”, he said.
Njoku, who said he is vying for the Etche Constituency II on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) noted that Igbo clan at present has the worst case in terms of poor road in the state, and appealed to the federal, state governments and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to come to the rescue of people of the clan.
He regretted that the area which has high economic importance in view of the so many oil wells and other assets in the area was allowed to suffer bad road network.
The assembly aspirant particularly wants the Umuebulu road and the Chokocho/Igbo road to be addressed to alleviate the suffering of people of the area.
“We have abundant mineral resources helping federal government and we record very high voting strength during elections so we are not suppose to be abundant,” he said.
He also commended Total Exploration and Production Company Nigeria Limited, for providing 500Kva transformer for Umuebulu community, but urged the company to also provide boreholes and more transformers for adequate services to the people.
