Anambra State chap
ter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed the victory of ex-minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai at the Federal High Court, Awka, Wednesday, describing it as a triumph of liberty over tyranny.
The APC also said the victory was a symbolic judicial confirmation that the state’s gubernatorial election was far from free and fair.
El-Rufiay who led the APC delegation from Abuja to the November 16, 2013 governorship election in Anambra State had gone to court to challenge his detention by the Department of State Service (DSS) inside his hotel room in Awka on the election day.
The court in its final judgment on Monday ordered the DSS and the Attorney-General of the Federation to publicly apologise to El-Rufai and pay him N2 million damages.
Reacting in a statement by its spokesman, Okelo Madukaife, Anambra APC described the judgment as “good food for the soul of a nation in thirst of justice.”
Anambra APC congratulated EL-Rufai for the courage “to take up this crass contravention of the Freedom of movement, Freedom of expression and Freedom of Association as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria…”
